Parche

A hangout, a plan or the group you do it with — in Colombia, the answer to 'what are we doing?'

Hear it in context

  • ¿Hay parche para este fin de semana?

Is there anything on this weekend?

  • Me voy de parche con mis amigos.

I'm going out with my friends.

  • Ese parche de la universidad es muy buena gente.

That university crowd is really nice.

What It Actually Means

Parche is a Colombian word for the plan and for the people. ¿Cuál es el parche? asks “what are we doing?”; mi parche is your group of friends.

The Family

  • Parchar — to hang out: vamos a parchar.
  • Parcero — a friend: parcero.

Common Pitfall

Outside Colombia parche will usually be understood only as “patch”, as in a patch on a tyre or a plaster. If you say hay parche elsewhere, expect confusion.
