What It Actually Means
Vale is the word you’ll hear more than any other in Spain — on the phone, in shops, between friends confirming plans. It functions as “okay”, “alright”, “got it”, “deal”, and “fine” all at once, and almost nothing else fills its role.
Where Textbooks Get It Wrong
Textbooks teach de acuerdo as the “correct” way to say “agreed”, but in everyday Spain Spanish it sounds stiff. Natives reach for vale by default and save de acuerdo for more formal contexts.
Regional Note

Common Pitfall
Rising intonation turns vale into a question (“¿Vale?” — “Okay?”, checking someone’s on board), while flat intonation makes it a simple confirmation. Listen for the difference before you try to produce it yourself.
