The Scene

Two friends hash out a weekend trip over the phone, and the conversation leans almost entirely on a handful of everyday verbs — quedar, sacar, pillar, encargarse, hacer falta — that appear constantly in real Spanish but rarely get proper attention in a grammar-first course.

Vocabulary Highlights

• quedar en algo — to settle on or agree to a plan, distinct from “quedar” meaning simply to meet up.
• sacar tiempo — to make time for something, used the way English says “carve out time.”
• echar de menos — to miss something or someone, essential and extremely common.
• encargarse de algo — to take care of/handle something, a natural way to divide responsibilities.
• hacer falta — to be needed, works impersonally the way “gustar” does — “hace falta descansar” (rest is needed).
